Taken during a Dalescroft Railsfans shed visit on 20/8/1972. High summer but not great weather so my Kodak instamatic 50 didn't produce very good quality images. We wandered all over the depot. The locos in this view are class 08 shunters 3109, 3198, 3343, 3462 & 3833, with class 25 number 7615 in the left background. According to my Ian Allan Locoshed Book Wigan (8F) had an allocation of 38 class 08 shunters at this time which seems a lot but would reflect the mining & industrial activity of the time.

this photo was taken from the access road to springs branch mpd.i can see springs branch No2 signalbox in the background, but i am struggling to remember what the building
just above and in front of the nearest 08 is,does anyone
recognise it?

Don't think its Springs Branch No.2 box - given the date of the photo and the Warrington power box signals in the background SP No. 2 would have been well gone by this date and in any event was between the goods lines. Is it not the goods cabin that was on the Ince Moss side of the line that survived a little longer?
The building that you can't identify looks like the old building that was on the corner down from the cemetry wall - think it was something to do with the house coal firm/depot that latterly was there.

david.
you are quite right,i must have entered a time warp to get it wrong like that.the absence of any semaphore signals
should have been obvious to me.thanks for the info on the building.
