I think the building you can just see over the wall on the left hand side was the old Railway Inn in canal street, there were 2 or 3 houses but also the pub, I think at one time Maurice Aaron lived in there, but if I have got that wrong I will soon be told about it ??

Aitch, The houses you can see at the side of the bridge were the row of about three or fours terraced directly behind Whittakers Shop (Jane Dutch) The Railway Inn was nearer to the actual railway line. There was another hosue between the Railway Inn and the railway line (look at an earlier picture posted on the Ince album looking at the Station from the top of the bridge on the steps that climbed up the side from Canal St and you will see where I mean)

Wow, brings back memories, was born and brought up at the first house past the phone box,it must have been a while ago as those houses on the right hand loking down are long gone.

The roof with the felt covering that's just over the stone wall was occupied by Jimmy and Tommy Pennington. The gable end next but one was the Conquering Hero pub and Billy Varty ran his Funeral business from a council house in the next block up.

The Year was mid 70s.At the end of THE old houses on your right my school pal Adrian lived.He bet me 100 pounds who would get his HGV first.I went on to join the Army,i won & i am still waiting for mi monies?.By the way we still live on the right 173 ince green lane.The Joneses.Respect & regards.Paul Jones.

The large building in the distance with the chimney is Smiths dairy in Belle Green Lane, it use to be Cunninghams brewery when Belle Green Lane was called New Hall Street.

yes, aitch, maurice arron did live in one of the houses near the bridge. he then lived in greenfield avenue round the corner and sadly passed away in 2003, him and my grandma were good friends

ive finally tracked the name of the pub at the top end of farmer st next to inc green lanei thout it was the rising sun as thats wat jackie aldred once told me but someone was trying to locate the raven inn at 179 ince green lane and florrie burns house was numbered as part of the said lane i sawwriting over the door licensed to sell beer and spirits

My wife lived in Canal Street from 1966 until the early 1980's when the houses were demolished due to the ground beneath them becoming unstable. If you look at the interactive old map at the following link, what people don't realise is that Canal Street only had 6 houses on it. The houses over the wall in the photo posted above are not in Canal Street. The 6 houses were only even numbered 2 through to 12 and old online census records from 1901 and 1939 clearly show no houses with odd numbering.

On Friday 12th April, I did some more exploring of the area around Ince station and took some time to look at the numbers of the houses still standing either side of the road bridge shown in the photograph above. At one side the last house is 176a and on the other side of the bridge is number 200a so there is a gap in the numbering. As I suspected, any of the houses over the wall in the photograph which are now gone would definitely have had Ince Green Lane addresses with even numbering. The modern detached houses with white rendering are still in Ince Green Lane and numbered accordingly.
