A bit of old Wigan that has not been erased. It's the tiled threshold of the shop at the market end of the Makinson Arcade that was the Tea & Coffee Importers back in the 1940's, as a child I would go to the shop with my Grandpa Bryson & sit on a chair while he made his purchases. Shops were shops then !

I used to love going in there with my Mum for a pound of loose tea! The smell was fantastic.

When Makinsons closed down it became Mark Williams pork butchers which still had the same smell as the building that is now McDonalds, then after that it was Discount Daises shoe emporium

Working in Galleries on security at Night I sometimes get a strong smell of coffee when passing this shop.
