Circa 1905 and 2005.
Hardly any diference apart from mode of transport and lights, brilliant.
Just trying to place School Lane Mick. Is it the road that climbs uphill from Abbey Lakes & at the top you could turn right past the old Lyric cinema & on via the hairpin bend to Hall Green ? The parish church sort of on the corner if you turned left ? Great to see pix with the time lapse of 100yrs
That's right Helen. School Lane forms part of the A577 road, along with Parliament Street, where it passes through the old UpHolland village.
When the first photo was taken there were over two dozen shops in UpHolland village - butchers, grocers, bakers, everything needed in a community. Today there are only two - a hairdresser and a phone warehouse. A sad sign of the times.
didnt the phone warehouse used to be Dingle bells?
its nice to see somewhere hasnt been spoiled by `progress`
thanks for the pics
Yes the phone shop used to be Dingle Bells. In the early 70's I used to buy pre-recorded tapes from there as I got a small cassette player with my christmas money.
Immediately to the left of the horse & cart, was the UpHolland Village Primitive Methodist Chapel.
Chapel Wesleyan Methodist not Primitive.I attended this Chapel
