Lock no 12 in Higher Ince mid morning about 1980 in Autumn. This was too popular a swimming place to fish it in the summer but there are chub in the Winter. We called it the Deepy Lock.
Crawling through the tunnel when the bywash wasn't running was a regular dare.
The grey hills at the side have now become overgrown with trees and it's a much leafier place altogether today

Superb photograph.
I remember my Dad saving a lad (Brian Jarvis)went he slid down that bywash, circa 1962
These pictures bring back a lot of memories, as I
was a carpenter for British waterways an worked on all 22 locks
It's amazing to see a plce that I'm so used to seeing from so long ago... it's hardley changed.
