What a fantastic selection of photographs. Well Done that man... This is the type of photograph we want to see more of.
Good to see the photo of Sir Francis's statue before we began to polish his boot.
Great picture.........
Hmmmm, looks like a good location for an industrial depot that !
I remember this statue so well, my Mum was never able to afford a holiday so Mesnes Park was a real treat for me. The statue was the first thing i would make for and to rub his shoe, what a treat. My poor Mum must have been bored stiff pushing me for hours on the swings in the playground, My poor Mum may have thought she did'nt give me a very exciting life but these memorie are oh so precious and no amount of holidays abroad could ever be as deep rooted as my days in Wigan park.
I also remember the statue and have photos of me rubbing his foot. I now have photographs of my grandson doing the same. Have noticed the lack of ladies on the photo.
oh christine, this photo is wonderfull and you must have been like most of us kids at the time as i never even knew that there was other countries my world was wigan park ,haigh hall ,the canal bank, wonderfull simple places where we played in innocence all day long, i remember polishing that shoe when i was a child and my grandkids do it now, i just wish the gardens and grass was as beautifull as then but not so ,so sad that nobody gives a damn now they think its lovely but no they have not seen it in its glory ime gutted that young folk have no idea .
