Used to work with the last landlord or so he said, the bloke in question was Harry Goulding don`t know if anyone can confirm this. He was also known as Harry Scaff having been a scaffolder on such buildings as the CIS block in Manchester. But will always remember the tales that he used to tell about some of the old characters who went in The Dog.

Ron, we have every reason to be grateful to you for the fantastic photos you place on wiganworld but that will be as nothing compared to the gratitude later generations, who are mere youngsters presently, will feel when they too become interested in their town's past history. Thank you, keep up your wonderful work.

Thanks Keith for your comment<g> As you say in years to come this site will probably play a hugh part in local schools who are teaching about the Local History of Wigan.

Another great picture and another even greater loss to the town centre.
We never really appreciated what we had.
