Paul, this photo is a brilliant find giving me a complete understanding of The location of the shop on the left featured in Helen’s photo.
My assumption was that the pie shop was at the end of upper Hallgate when it’s around the corner on lower Hallgate adjacent to the gable end of the Bay Horse. Thank you, hope Helen and Ron see this.
Thanks for posting the photo Paul. So my Bradshaw grandparents pie shop was in Hallgate. I only remember being in the shop once when I stood eye level with the wooden counter.
Colin, yep I was always under the impression the "Pie Shop" was opposite what was the cobblers. Now I can see it was round the corner. Hallgate at one time must have been the only street in Wigan that had two 90deg bends in it??? It started from the Market Place and ended in Frog Lane. What a massive building the Bay Horse was..
Whereabouts in Hallgate was this building?
Rich, if you can visualise the photographer stood opposite The Anvil on the corner of Dorning Street and Bishopgate you are looking across at the corner of upper Hallgate to the right leading to Market Street and lower Hallgate to the left leading down hill to Frog Lane.
I have recently taken photo of this corner showing the current building which has many similarities to the old. If anyone want a copy drop me a line.
Thanks, Colin for the explanation. Ive now seen the other photo so now I know exactly where it was.
Colin, I would love to see the photo. Could you email it to me please? Thankyou.
There is a photo on here Irene.
It shows the full frontal of the pie shop next door and a bit of the side of the pub.
Thankyou, Rich.
Irene, some photos of the shop in question on Hallgate can be seen in this link: https://www.wiganworld.co.uk/album/showalbum.php?opt=6&gallery=Bradshaw+family

This makes a interesting comparison with the photo on today’s PAD picture.
