Thanks to Daniel Catterall for the image
My Mum and Dad got married there on 11th March 1953 and I was christened there in June 1956.
Even though the photo isn’t too sharp, it’s so lovely to see.
It was not a Methodist Church but Free Church of England(Unattached)
Donald, that's right it was a Free C of E.
info related to Christ Church; The Church was dedicated on 21st Aug 1909, unfortunately the church came under the first phase of redevelopment which included the construction of the Civic Centre. The church where told by the Corporation to either sell up or they would compulsory purchase the land, long negotiations went on for 12 months, until a settlement was made. In may 1969 the final agreement was made, the trustees agreed that they would close the church. when the surrounding buildings at that time were being demolished the church members saw this as the beginning of the end. no plans for a new building were made and members joined other surrounding church's of their preference. At the time of closing the church had 40 members however, in a short period the church had lost 6 families. It was not stated at this time when the church would close although, the contractors where scheduled to start demolition by August at the latest.
