Those boys would just be old enough to go to war eleven years from then. They look so innocent and dressed in what looks like ‘grown up ‘ clothes. If they did go off to fight ‘‘in some foreign field’’. I hope they came back home. It does look like the lad was sweeping up when the photographer interrupted. Big occasion having their photographs taken. The stone flags look in a poor state.
The posters advertise a date of Saturday June 6th I've Just just done a bit of research. The only years in the early 1900's when June 6th fell on a Saturday were 1903. 1908 and 1914
One of the old gas lamps is still in place, I sent in a photo of it a few weeks ago to WW PADs but it didn't make it past the censors, also up that alley is the old dog, coal chute with its cast iron cover.
Saturday June 6th also took place in 1896, another possibility.
Re the closing down sale, I think it's for a haberdashers looking at what is listed - baby linen, cloth caps and jackets amongst the items offered
Yes I agree Carol, but did this give the opportunity (or may be the reason) for the re-building of the pub and enable it to be placed in the more advantageous position on the main street. Just a thought.
