An earlier photograph than the one taken my Keith Sutch in 1986. From more or less the same location.

I have put this comment on before..My dad was the projectionist in the forties,my mam happened to be visiting a relative that lived in the street..no longer there..it ran along the side of the canal…the said relative handed my mam some sandwiches for my dad saying “ here, take these to our Jimmy love” they fell for one another..my mam was sixteen and my dad was eighteen.

I was 15 and Peter was 17. Maureen: it was 1968. We were 21 and 23 when we got married, and it was 51 years ago today, 26th January!

The Canada picture house

Pity there aren't any photographs around showing the building when it was the CANADA PICTURE HOUSE. Maybe someone has one tucked away?

It was also known as The Alliance Hall, and the name is still there, right at the top of the building, (although it can't be made out on the photo).

It was the Alliance Cinema but known locally as the Canada because of some connection of the owners to Canada i believe.
