I’m not a fan of high rise flats but I do think they were the best ones on the corner of Greenough St. No character whatsoever nowadays. Completely soulless.
I just can't get my bearings here.....is that block of high-rise flats still there?
Irene you are looking towards the lights at the top of Greenough St. To the right is what was Scholes shopping centre. Yes the flats are still there
Thankyou Ron. I get SO mixed up with Scholes photos and yet they fascinate me, especially the old ones showing the old shops, but with not having known Scholes well, I can never picture what was there THEN, (1950S/60S), and what is there NOW! I am so grateful to the people who patiently point it out to me!
I think that that's Boyswell House, and the bus is parked across the road from the famous 'Scholes Henge'
There’s some lovely new houses on the left side built a few years ago - so much better than those flat roof houses.
I walked then drove up that area for ten years five sometimes six times a week…some years ago .and just around that bend where the bus is heading was the Chemist where I used to get my favourite perfume White Fire from.
I used to go in the chemist every week on Friday after work Maureen buying sachets of ‘mud packs’ ! I loved the chemist all the makeup and stuff was laid out on the counter in compartments.
Another nice perfume that we’ve overlooked Veronica was Apple Blossom do you remember that ..it was in a pink bottle, and that too was lovely.
Was that scent by Helena Rubenstein Maureen? I do remember it. That is a blast from the past.
Boyswell House flats at the top of Greenough Street, with the maisonette flats, three and five storey blocks built in Scholes, Worsley Mesnes, Dumbarton Green Beech Hill, and Durham Street, Whelley that have all gone.
Interesting to note the buildings on the left (as many parts of "new Scholes" have since been demolished. Pity those bonny buildings beyond were demolished for a post-war ideology and/or road widening.
