I spent a lot of my afternoons in the Park Hotel because I used to get a week off work every 2 weeks, and my mates were all at work, so it was the Park for me, and then talking to my sister-in-law, who worked on Pendlburys scent counter.

Was it still Pendlebury's when your sister-in-law worked on the scent counter, Mick, or was it Debenhams by then? I only ask because I worked at Debenhams in the early 1970s and may have known her.

Her name was Ann. Mother of Amanda.

Thanks for that info, Mick. I didn't know Ann but have seen photos of her when I worked at Boots with your niece Amanda. I remember going to Amanda's wedding....I wasn't a guest but a group of us went to the church ceremony. My daughter was only a young girl then but Amanda was always friendly towards her and Ashley used to go for a chat with her when she came into Boots to meet me from work.

Back in those days when you went in a pub you would know the name of the landlord or landlady. Mrs Brown had the Park, Colin Cooke had the Market Hotel around the corner. These days you just have managers who flit from one pub to another?
