What a poignant photo. I know it was a Catholic Club but it puts me in mind of the Labour Clubs, Working Men's Clubs and Royal British Legions which were packed every weekend and where you had to queue to get in by 6pm on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. Woe betide you if you sat in someone's regular seat! Someone would pipe up "Our Nellie allus sits theer" and heaven help you if you spoke during "Bingo".....you were soon "shushed"! "Give order for th'artiste" was another regular call.....those days have gone now but those who were there remember.
