Wigan Album

A day out in the park what more could we have asked for? My mam pushed two of us in a black pram like the one at the front. What memories this photo stirs up. I remember the Punch and Judy shows in the park. People dressed in their Sunday best. When did it all start going wrong?

My parents took me to either Wigan Park/Mesnes Park, (whichever you wish to call it), or to Haigh Hall on the tractor through The Plantations every Sunday from Spring to Autumn in the late 1950s/early 1960s. I can recall my brother Colin introducing his future wife to us in the park.....she was shy of meeting my parents and Colin set it up for us to "bump into" them near the cafe at a certain time. The Park is still a lovely oasis in out town and long may it continue to be so.
