A while ago I posted a copy of a photo of the Interior of king St Baptist Church. However, it turns out that the Photo isn’t the Baptist church but the interior of the United Methodist Free Church. I assumed this was the Baptist church because it was unlabelled and amongst photos of the fire at the Baptist church, however this copy was found in the Jubilee celebrations book for the Methodist Church in 1906.
The United Methodist Free Church closed in 1959 / 1960. The building was later demolished and by the 70s it became Tesco, its now currently Morty’s Night Club.

Another great picture Daniel, makes me wonder what happened to all the incredible organs from those demolished churches.
Some I know must have been destroyed by fire but when first installed they must have cost a small fortune.

Colin, sadly I don’t know what happened to the organ here. I know that the organ was a 2 manual Harrison & Harrison. Church’s like St Paul’s Congregational there organ was partially salvaged mainly the choir division and incorporated into the new organ in Trinity URC just off the cherry gardens.

My Grandparents were married here in 1904. My Dad and his sister were Baptised here too.
