I remember old buildings in that row with the toffee shop on the corner of Millgate. On the opposite corner I remember an old black door. I don’t remember those signs above though. ( There is a photo of the corner shop where we would go after swimming at the baths. I wonder if some of that building can be seen.)
Ron, I can 100% confirm that this is on Rodney Street but cannot say what date it was F.R. Dawson's, I am thinking this picture might be pre WW2.
I have a aerial photo from 1958/59 showing the entire row of buildings along Rodney Street.
In contrast to others this building which looks extremely white including the roof, all other building to the left and right are dark, brick buildings. Probably quite impressive and desirable when first built..
To the left hand side one pair of three story houses backing onto the Pavilion Cinema on Library Street. To the right. two more sizable three story houses and then - as Veronica rightly says - a shop on the corner of Millgate that sold toffee cig's and come November, Fireworks.
Don't think this is Rodney st?
Dave 110% it is Rodney street..It's where the International Baths were built
Colin can you post the aerial photo showing those buildings. It would be good to see them again. I do remember the old building on the corner of Library St. I think it was a private house.
Sorry Ron, I forgot Rodney st used to go further than the library.
