A postcard showing the Market Hall soon after it's opening.

I estimate at least 25 years after it opened, Ron.
All the people are dressed in typical Edwardian style, and the tramlines and gantries clearly show the tram service is electrified.

Great post card and picture Ron.
I was once told that the Cast Iron Canopy from the Woodcock Street entrance (seen in the picture) that was transferred to the outside of the New Market Hall, Hindley Arcade entrance was destroyed in the demolition of The Galleries.
However I read recently that it was in storage awaiting a decision on where to locate it presumably somewhere within the redevelopment. I hope this is the case.

Colin, I may be wrong but I'm sure it was mentioned somewhere that it would be installed outside the entrance to the 'new market hall', which would be off the Market Place.
It would be fitting if it was to be put in place there.

Thanks Cyril, that would be an appropriate place for it to go, perhaps on the Woodcock Street entrance, its natural home.

I searched Old Market Canopy Wigan and found this under Wigan Buildings.

1877 Canopy recovered from Old Market Hall.
Produced at the Sun Foundry in Glasgow by George Smith and Co.

The Sun Foundry produced a range of excellent designs for gates, railings, grandstands and their speciality, ornamental fountains.
The Canopy was removed in 2023 for safe storage due to the Galleries redevelopment. The intention is to relocate within the new development. Currently the exact location is still under discussion.
(There's a good colour photo there as well). Sorry I can't do links.

Sorry that should read bandstands

The serial number on the bottom left hand corner of the card indicates it was first sold in 1910.
That would correspond with the fashions worn and the electrified tram service.
