Wigan Album

This would appear to have been taken in or after 1931 when Wigan Corporation transport went over to all bus operation. The gantries for tram operation still appear to be in place but the there are no tracks visible. The gantries might still be in place to service a very short lived single decked trolley bus service on the Martland Mill route.

Changed very little over the years, except the tram wire columns which have gone.
Also the large ornate lamp outside the Pagefield Hotel isn't there on photos of the pub. Hopefully the mosaic tiles in the entrance have been saved from the attacks by vandals, and also the renovators converting it into flats and a shop.

I remember that big lamp on the Pagefield Hotel, left of photo, was there till the 1960's.
