I remember the bus shelters very well. The bus stop nowadays is further down near the new build baths opposite The History Museum. E
Further back in Library St. were the bus stops for New Springs and Hindley. Don't remember there being any shelters for those.
Image showing both shelters

Yes,can remember them
The Wigan Corporation bus, JP8300 is a Leyland Titan PD1 on route 24 to Bottling Wood. It is the first one of a batch of 30, JP8300-8329 new in 1950, the first full height double deckers after the previous lowbridge buses, ie side gangway upstairs on the right and rows of four seats on the left, and were withdrawn 1968/69. The car is a Ford Anglia De Luxe with the metal grille, the basic Anglias had no grille, introduced in 1959, so my guess is that the photograph was taken on a summer day in the 1960s..
Mr X your knowledge of buses and motor vehicles is way beyond my comprehension... I've just bought collection of photographs showing Wigan Buses. I'll be putting them on the site . I only bought them because of the background.
