I think you were right about River Street Ozy. The cobbles and stone steps jutted out around the houses at the bottom. They were quite wide as well. I would still like to see how it is now and what was done to close them off. Thank you for posting.

I’ve found another photo showing some steps near the river Veronica .
Whether they’re the same ones that you remember I wouldn’t know . I’ll put it on as soon as I’ve lit the AGA .

I hope it’s the same steps Ozy…I’m beginning to think I’ve dreamt them! There were iron bars at the side…

This is where Central Park Way is now. Westminster Street was the birthplace of George Formby in 1904. The little street off Vaughan Street with no name was Tichborne Street. Just off the map Wigan had the same named as two of the most well known streets in London, Oxford Street and Regent Street.

In what became Calderbank's yard and the short brick tower like structure which I had presumed to be an old shaft of a mine, I can see on the map that Water Heyes mill chimney is marked, so it was possibly the lower part of what was left of this which could be seen, and not a mine ventilation shaft.
