Church Lane, Shevington flooded but there are no rivers are brooks here, a white Austin Allegro reg looks like RRN177P. The Allegro had four engine choices, 1100, 1300, 1500 and 1750, the top model was the posh Vanden Plas. The other car may be a Ford Capri GL or Ghia with the vinyl roof.
The parish Council need alerting to the state of our roads. I did not think Randall Ave would be top of the list for resurfacing when you look at the state of Church and Gathurst lanes. Or am I being annoyingly insensitive?
Just get it off your chest Shevy Mart. I’m shocked at the thought of pot holes in such a highly esteemed village.
Mind you if the Parish Council is located on or near Randall Rd that could be your answer. Unfortunately it’s a problem up and down our highways.
It does look a very attractive village looking at the boutique. I wonder who that athletic looking man is running off….
The two premises on the left have both been extensively altered since this was taken. Both now boast a second storey - but for some reason the one on the left was built up to the height of the doing property to its left - but the one on the right is not as high. It's now a nice bijoux restaurant called 'Juniper'. The 'Cottage Boutique' on the right has been converted back to a dwelling.
Quite right MrX - otherwise commonly, and deservedly, referred to as the Austin Allagro. Another 70s load of rubbish from the car division of British Leyland.
Whoops! Missed a letter g out in my previous posting. I meant to comment 'commonly referred to as the Austin Allaggro'.
Rev David Long.
I used to live in the last cottage on the left of this row and I know that Mick who sends in photos to Wigan world was born in the last cottage, 3 church lane on the right, it's the one with the arched window.
The reason it's got an arched window is because the cottage used to be the old Shevington blacksmiths stables.
The Austin Allegro was voted Britain's worst car in the 1970s.
Quite a few British Leyland cars during the 1970s and 1980s were rubbish to put it mildly. Mini metro, Allegro, Marina, Montego, Princess wedge and even the Sherpa van, all poor quality and paint defects.
