This is the junction with Market Street.

The rounded building on the right reminds me of a shop off Market St.
Great post cards lovely to see them. Thanks again Ken.

This is Lowe Mill Lane, off Market Street, Hindley. The shop where the young lad is sat down is Select-A-Carpet now and where the lamp post is on the left is Borron Shaw Estate Agents. The Mill itself is long gone.

That's Lowe Mill Lane. My sister-in -law had a little terraced house down there when she got married in 1970; she LOVED that little house. Then Wigan Council decided to demolish the row of houses for "development" and she was forced to move. All these years later, they have done NOTHING with the land they purchased, and my sister-in-law still mourns her little house. Just off Lowe Mill Lane is Pump Street, and there was some writing ...."E.R....God Save The Queen", which two little lads painted on a wall at the time of The Queen's Coronation in 1953. I don't know whether the writing, (or indeed the wall), is still there but it was still there not all that long ago; I'm sure someone from Hindley will know.

This is known locally as "Mill Turning". I walked up the incline from the 'brook' at the bottom countless times on my way to St Benedict's Primary. I remember there being a coffee bar on the left where the large brick wall was.

The snack bar was Lewis’s a meeting place for motor bikers in the 60/70’s.The shop on photo I recall being a jewellers and next door was Sharples electrical shop. You went down Mill turning to get to the Labour club from Market street.

Thanks Ken, nice picture.
Some money's worth in that simple building and ornate gated entrance, you wouldn't see anything like that built today.
