When in Chester cathedral recently I saw a wall plaque in memory of Edmund or Edward Holt & his wife of Ince Hall in the County of Lancaster. Wonder if there is an Ince Hall in Wigan ?

Lovely scenes of times past. Great to see how it was then. Thanks for posting and sharing them.

Those houses are between Ince Station and what was once The Manley Pub. Just past the houses to the right are some detached houses with names as well as numbers. and in one of them, known as "Manor House", (it's still there). lived the lady who used to make all the walking-day bouquets and posies which we little girls carried in the procession in the 1950s and 1960s. The scent of fresh flowers in "Manor House" on walking- day morning will stay with me forever. Helen, there were two Halls in Ince...."Ince Hall" in Lower Ince and "The Hall of Ince" in Higher Ince. "The Hall of Ince" had a famous ghost when I was a little girl, called "Kitty Beawt Yed"! As far as I know, it is still standing but is now converted into apartments....I don't know if Kitty still roams the corridors though!

This pic was published here twice in 2020 by Ron Hunt (look under Ince) - and in the Comments it was eventually agreed that it was at the bottom end of Ince Green Lane - near the Black Diamond.

You are probably right, Rev.....I'd thought the photo was higher up Ince Green Lane, opposite The Council Offices; yes, there ARE houses with gardens further down near The Black Diamond....I'd forgotten those, and thankyou for pointing that out. I am happy to stand corrected, but it was nice to have a little reminisce about Walking Days, which we sadly never see now.

It is a nice scene with picket fences to the front of the houses. Everyone looks smartly dressed and out on the street for the occasion
Helen, it seems there were one or two Ince Hall's around in earlier times. I think there are quite a few images and comments elsewhere on WW.
