The top photo shows Crompton’s works in Gerard st prior to demolition and the subsequent development of the Gerard centre .
The bottom photo was taken a little farther up Gerard st. at its junction with Garswood st.
The tracked vehicle bearing the poppy wreath is a Loyd carrier , a type of Bren gun carrier .

Brilliant photos. I worked in Ashton on leaving school in 1969, at Richardson's Chemists, which is the black-and-white building on the bottom photo, and I remember Crompton and Nettlefold's works , shown on the top photo.
