Into the 'Modern Age'
thats what people must have said. Smart & streamlined, looks much bigger than in the first photo.... . At David Greigs, the swanky ' bar ' only sat about 20 people & it only served food.No alcohol.... Heavens Above, alcohol when you were out shopping ?!!

There was a lot more tables then….a bit too close together I must say. They spread them out a bit later on with round tables. It was the late sixties and early seventies when I often went in the cafe carrying on to 2007 when they moved to the Grand Arcade. Got very comfortable there when it was up and out time…

BHS across the road had a sizeable cafe when I was young, and there was the Brass Tally in the bottom end of Woodcock Street. Favourite though was Cassinelli's on the corner with Market Street, who did ham butties about 5 inches thick. Was there also a cafe upstairs from the entrance to the new precinct in Woodcock Street, or have I dreamt that ?

Did Poundland buy into it , I’m confused? These changes are doin my head in . Can you imagine if it becomes a Poundland from how it was ? What a downhill !!

Gareth - it was the Brass Farthing cafe, at the end of Woodcock St, next to Crank and Burtons.
The Co-op had a cafe upstairs in the Centre Arcade above their store at the Woodcock St end.

Dave the original Pendlebury’s/ Debenhams’s building became Wilco. It’s empty now waiting for a new business as the company went bust. ‘Poundland’ is in the Grand Arcade. (It just shows how the mighty have fallen). The Debenham’s building is in the Grand Arcade and is now hosting a Charity that sells new items a lot cheaper than the original price and the proceeds are for people less fortunate than ourselves. In other words Debenham’s has sunk without a trace in any town.
