These are absolutely brilliant photos Ron. I have many books on old Wigan pics but I've never seen these. This is what Wigan World is all about and I'm sure other people will have photos that have not been made public. Just hope we will get some more in the near future.

I agree Dave.
There are millions of people who have never seen this framework ( including myself ) and probably never will unles they demolish the building.

It’s interesting to see the ‘ghost’ of another building on the far wall that must have been there previously. Was that from when the building was demolished to open up Crompton St into Standishgate? I believe that did happen many years ago. Or am I wrong about that?

Don't tempt fate Rich, don't need any more demolition going on

I didn't know that about Crompton Street, Veronica, although I'm sure you are right. I know Library Street wasn't always there and that buildings were demolished to make way for it, but I didn't know it was the same for Crompton Street.

Veronica, Compton st was already there.

Yes I know that Dave but the shape of another building from the past is showing up on the far building. I’m talking many years ago. There was new a new building as well on the opposite corner.

Veronica, If you are referring to the building on the extreme left at the back of the tall sign post that could be the gable end of Mark Williams butchers, now Mcdonalds?
Maybe they added the other buildings on later where the chemist used to be? Just my thought.
