Is that taken from the top of the hill before the sharp drop towards the bridge and the railway station?
I wonder if my Grandfather Thomas Bryson would have walked this lane. They lived in Gathurst Lane when the family first moved from Scotland .
A really rural lane in those days
This could have been taken from either side of the bridge, if this is the Orrell side then it is Gathurst Road, the Shevington side is Gathurst Lane.
Looks like the houses at the bottom of Gathurst lane by the canal in the distance
Just blown up the original image and it looks like that the canal bridge is going from left to right. If it was coming from Orrell it would be going from right to left.
Think the bridge in the distance is the railway bridge with the footpath to the right therefore it is taken from the Orrell side.
So Roburite would be on the immediate left of picture in 2023 then Ron?
If that is the canal bridge you can see? Then Roberite would be on the left, but further down the road. I'm sure that if it was taken from the Orrell side Then the photographer would have titled it ORRELL not GATHURST..
It must be taken from the Shevington side, as you can see the railway arch with the smaller - former wagon way arch to the left . If it was taken from the Orrell side , the smaller arch (present day footpath) would be to the right.
