Another very rare photograph. Showing box pews and two of the six wooden columns supporting the roof which were solid oak tree trunks, roughly hewn and not sawn, and were supported on stone pedestals.

I think that this, and the first of the two views of the exterior of the Chapel which you've posted, come from a Paper published in the Transactions of the Historic Society of Lancashire and Cheshire in 1895. It was written by William Frederick Price, son of the Vicar of Douglas from 1829-1860, John Price.
WF Price went on to write another Paper which appeared in the Transactions in 1903/4, on the history of St Wilfrid's Standish. John Price had been Curate of St Wilfrid's, and was also Headmaster of Standish Grammar School for most of his time as Vicar of Parbold - and lived at the School, travelling over to Parbold to perform his duties there. The year before he died in 1860, he raised the money to provide a parsonage at Parbold....
Among the images Price used for his Paper on St Wilfrid's was a photograph of the church taken before the present tower was erected in 1867 - which makes it a very old photo indeed. It is credited to 'J L Price of Standish'. As far as I can work out, this was John Llewellyn Price who was a Surgeon in Standish. He may have been the writer's uncle. Perhaps he also took the pictures of Douglas Chapel.
