Sadly it's style that has disappeared as well Veronica.

How elegant those ladies look! Not everyone could have afforded Pendlebury's clothes, but even people with very little would make an effort when going out....I don't mean for just nipping to the corner shop, but going into Wigan would have meant getting changed and wearing a coat and hat and stockings for the ladies, or a tie for the men...."getting dressed" itself is a novelty for some people these days....I have seen people in pyjamas and dressing gowns in Tesco and in my local Post Office AND the doctor's surgery!

The lady in the centre has a very pained look on her face, maybe her corset is too tight, or her bunions playing up in those shoes?

I’m not surprised with those high heels at her age Cyril. I must admit I have the same trouble with bunions.
