Think I recognise the lady, Ozy. How we all took the cooling towers for granted...we just thought they would always be there. Good photo.

There are numerous videos on You Tube covering the demolishion of the Cooling Towers in 1989. They were a unique part of the Wigan skyline for a long time. The remains of the base of one of the towers can still be found close to the side of the new link road.

When my late Brother was eighteen he worked at Taylor's mill in Wallgate as a young apprentice electrician..his boss brought him a component from the cooling towers..he set to in the factory yard but...as he was dealing with it someone switched everything back on,the mill girls who saw it happen all fainted,he got 1,500 volts and he was burned nearly all over..all TVs and lighte went off in Wigan it was on the news later in the evening..he had loads of skin grafts and they did a marvellous job,
I will cut it short to say he won his case .he shouldn't have been left with components from the cooling towers...he was blind for two weeks in hospital..but as I say Wythenshaw hospital Doctors were brilliant,
