I remember everything about this shop, the uneven flag floors..the smell of all the furniture..myMam bought all our bedroom furniture from here..I would polish all the furniture every weekend ( I loved polishing) with the Lavender wax polish in a tin..and when the tin became empty,it was used for my favourite game of Scotch...and of course the building itself was very attractive,
Yes Maureen, they sold really lovely furniture. The building is still there but nothing seems to be happening with it.There used to be a small image of the face of a little girl above the door,( not sure if it's still there)in memory of the daughter of the family who lived there who had drowned in the river Douglas which then ran at the bottom of Millgate.
My bedroom furniture came from there.
I loved looking round in Pennington it was always the first stop to buy furniture. I recall walking ‘down hill ‘ inside. I bought single beds as soon as the children were out of their cots from there. They lasted many years.
Other furniture as well. The lay out inside was a it cramped especially in the Georgian House. If I remember three piece suites were in there on the bottom floor.
My dad bought us are first three-piece suit when we moved in our first house in 1971.
