You can see The Manley Hotel on the left, and before pedantic James Hanson comments yes they are laying the ducting for the electric cables, not the cables themselves.
When men were men, and cobbles were cobbles.
Over the wall on the right-hand side of the road as we look at the photo was Lower Ince Railway Station which used to take workmen to Irlam Steelworks. In the 1960s, we Ince children used to play over there amongst the trees and bushes and we knew it as "The Little Jungle"
And flagstones were flagstones JB . Today , the pavements have become an ugly patchwork of tarmac .
oh no they are all in danger no hard hats, no yellow coats, no cones and no barriers
No vehicles freddie !!!
someone as lost the hoss
aker - it's a handcart - so no horse needed. I can remember Scout troops in the 50s setting off to camp at Tawd Vale for the weekend trundling all their gear along on one of those.
As a trained Civil Engineer mainly on roads etc, I must correct the misnomer made by the press/media (especially those who report on cycle races) and general public that what you see here are setts and not cobbles. Cobbles are short for Cobblestone -a rounded stone used for paving and a swine to correctly lay even by experts. Setts' are either small rectangular or square paving blocks either Granite or limestone and were mainly laid as road surfacing in the good old days. They also gave grip to the horse's hooves as they pulled the cart etc. You may think that this is a load of old "Cobblers" but that is another name for Testicles which are rounded. Cobbles & Setts are still used today by some authorities in the UK.
