Ignore the silly girl.
Is this the Sun Dial and is it still there?

I don't remember ever seeing a sun dial in the park.

That reminds me of INCE Park!

It reminds me of ''Madam Le Guillotine''...
Daft as a brush!
I'm sure there was a Sun Dial John but I don't know if that was it..

Veronica, that is in what we called the Rose Garden, Sir Ian McKellen opened after it was restored a few years ago, I'm sure the sundial is still there.

You're right Cyril - I checked with the site. I thought it might have gone the way of other treasures to that Wigan dump...

I remember the sundial being in the Rose Garden on the Parson's Walk side of Mesnes Park.

Wasn’t the Statue of the Boar War soldier buried in some secretive location?. I seem to recollect someone mentioning it on W.W.A. quite a while ago.

There were various tales about what happened to it, Albert, but I believe it came to light that it had just been thrown away. Those who know, (or "knew", as they're probably no longer with us), kept quiet about it. I'd like to believe differently as it holds memories of my Dad reading the inscription out loud whenever we visited the park cafe when I was a little girl, but sadly the "thrown away with the rubbish" story is probably true.

Don't worry Irene the inscription is still there as it ever was on the stone plinth.
It was only the damaged statue on top that was disposed of, now replaced with a much more sombre, respectful statue.

Cyril I've said before I for one appreciate your Links you put on, as their easy to open using this platform but for some reason Admin never lets Me explain to other how to open them, ( Could you or Mick tell them that don't know )
