I think its name was the Wigan Arms back in the 1970s. I remember spending a lot of time in there in that hot summer of 1976.

We were having a meal in the Wigan Arms one Saturday night when a party of 6 or 8 on a nearby table left via the fire escape without paying the bill. The manager told the staff that they would have to pay whereupon they went on strike and refused to serve all the other customers. It was a long night before the manager backed down and we finally got served.

At one time, what is now The Officers Club, was used by the Technical College.
