Great photo, Ron. Left mk1 escort van, far right Ford Transit and where the toilets are, a Morris J4 van.
Mc Candlsih's pie shop visible on the left!
Used to love McCandlish's apple cream tarts and their individual meringue tarts....not the same from anywhere else!
Oohhh... stop it!
I used to go to McCandlish every day to get toasted tea cakes for the morning coffee break. Circa 1969-70.
This is what it's all about on here-looking back and reliving the memories- always hungry for more photos! ( as well as McCandlish's delicious confectionary).
Lovely! This place was awash with! All were full of shoppers!
My wife Veronica, worked at Baker's Jewel Casket, in the late fifties, and very early sixties, until we got married in 1961. Then, it had a very different façade.
The road layout should have been left like that in stead of what we have now. In the next few weeks the council is going to alter it again and waste another £1.3
In 1961 I worked for Aspinall's the decorators in Mesnes St. I was always sent out on errands- McCandlish's was just one shop. McGregors down Commercial Yard and Harry Mayall's -I didn't rush back either - I always ended up with a free ham barm and a cake for going!
And not a "Chugger" or Beggar in sight !!!
The white Mk1 1974 Ford Escort van looks like it has Wigan registration SJP129N.
