This young lady would have no idea that just 2 years later the world would explode in world war1.

Gerry, how very interesting.

What make of car is it?. A car in Wigan in 1912 must've been very rare, especially when horses where still pulling carts, even in the 1940s they were still using them. Most working class people (unless you were a nurse, widwife or doctor) didn't have a car until the 1950s and even then there werent that many on the roads. Bet it would be worth alot of money today, if it still exists that is.

I wonder why old black and white photos always have that look of peace and tranqillity..I love looking at them.

George formby senior owned a rolls Royce I don't know if this is it though

Comment by: Maureen on 6th July 2016 at 19:57

Gerry..I believe it's true..the Rolls was seen parked in Great George St Wallgate where I was brought up..the family at the top of the Street The Priestleys were relations of Mr Formby Sr.

Al my aunt was a midwife in the mid 1950s she had no car then just her trusty old bike with a basket on the front, turning out day and night,in snow and rain until she was almost 70

Maureen that must be correct because beryl, George juniors wife had her address as great George st as her spinster address on their wedding certificate

Comment by: Maureen on 9th July 2016 at 08:19

Well Gerry..isn't that interesting,I wonder why she was living there..I know Mr Priestly told me many years ago that Mr Formby Sr was his uncle..so I wonder if she was lodging there at the time and that's where he met her,her surname was Ingham so the mind boggles..it was my uncle that told me about the Rolls being parked outside their house..I would love to know more..my Grandparents lived directly opposite them...I bet they could have told a story..ah well too late now..if you don't mind me asking Gerry..were you a relation ??

Comment by: Gerry on 9th July 2016 at 13:26

No I'm not a relative but an Incer who just happens to be the president of the George Formby Society. I have most of their family tree and will check for the Priestleys

Comment by: Maureen on 9th July 2016 at 16:05

Thank you Gerry..I've always wanted to know if it was true that he was related to the Priestlys.

Sorry Maureen no mention of the Priestley's BUT Beryl was living at number 2 Great George St the night before her wedding day did the Priestley's live there at that time?
