Probably had something to do with Mains Colliery, that was at Bamfurlong

Looks like molten slag which would be from an iron / steelworks rather than a coal mine?

I think I know where this was. If its the same one and it looks like it it was like a large cinder. It would be about 6 to 8 feet high and we would play on it. It was near Mains colliery but it was on its own on a grass bank. To get to it we would walk passed Bryn gates Methodists church down to what we called the chapel field, right down to the bottom of the field across a wooden plank / bridge across a ditch, up a grass bank and it was at the top of the bank. This would be around 1960
