The Post could never beat the picture quality and newsprint of the Wigan Observer. Some of the photos in the post and chronicle, looked like they were taken in fog.
There was an alleyway further up that opened out into a close which housed a few little workshops, Dick Cheetham a cabinet maker and French Polisher was one and where scratched and damaged furniture from Wigan Co-op would be taken to be restored by him.
Hello Cyril, the yard you refer to was Albion Yard, just over the brow of Millgate on the left. My mother had a grocer's shop to the right of the yard entrance. There is an old photo of the shop on Street scenes.The name Albion Inn can just about be made out.I may be wrong but I thought the name of the french polisher was Entwistle.
