Raymond, regarding the cobbles upto Aspull, as a child in the early 1950s we would walk down this lane from St Elizabeth's church but I only remember it being a cinder track. Fantastic painting, you are indeed very talented !!!.

I remember it being more sandy than cinders. Very difficult to cycle down - you had to get off your bike and push it.

All that fuss about Theodore Major and Lawrence Isherwood, and they can't hold a candle to this. It's lovely!

I remember the Toll Gate well, it was demolished about 1984 or 1985 and the old barn nearby as well. The old couple who used to live there Bob Gregory and his sister; their father had been the toll-gate keeper way back.New housing was built on the site, and one is still called Toll- Gate House; I live just across from here;in Whiteside Avenue

In my haste to put a comment on yesterday, I didn't mention that Mr.McClaren is indeed a fab artist. He manages to capture so much atmosphere into his paintings. My family bought me a picture of his of Castle Hill in winter and I love it.

For our 49th wedding anniversary in January we bought Ray's excellent print picture of All Saint's Parish church. It was a cold day for our wedding, not snowy as in the picture but we now have a lovely souvenir of our wedding. Thanks Ray, and we hope to puchase some others from your collection.
