You are correct Billy Bunter. It`s the 3rd photo on 3rd row on page 1 in Places, Market Place.
Apologies to Ron Hunt for the duplication.
That photo is so good, that it deserves to be on the site twice, in fact I hope someone sneds it in again and then it will be on the site three times
you don't miss much Earnest!
Frank, I haven't seen it before. A lovely photo of years gone by. Thank you.
Your welcome Ann
Just up the alley at the side of wallaces was the empire theatre a great old music hall then became a cinema
Walking the streets in those days you needed to watch where you put your feet.
Someone said the wooden hut was for the tram inspector?
Assuming this is looking towards top of Wallgate , there doesn't seem to be a gap in the buildings for Library Street ?
Library St was only built when they built the Library in the latter end of the 1800's
The Library was opened in 1878. The trams first arrived here in 1881. When was Library Street opened out, Ron?
It isn't shown on a map dated 1893 but it is showing on a street directory dated 1903. I'm sure I have the exact date somewhere?
if you look up the entry next to Wallaces you can still make out the old signwriting in white on brick wall saying about boots and shoes,
