“Dusty Bin” at Crow Nest Junction, January 1987
This train ran from Dean Lane, east of Manchester, to Appley Bridge and carried containers of compacted rubbish for disposal in the landfill site.
The “Peak” Class 45 locos were relatively uncommon in the Wigan area, but were used for a time on this train in the late 1980s.

6F75 = Dean Lane to Appley Bridge if my grey matter serves me correctly.
The switch diamond levers & the switch diamond FPL lever in the box used to jump about & bang back & forth sometimes kicking back against the interlocking in the lever frame a bit if this thing went over the junction that little bit too fast sometimes.
Sometimes I`m sure the driver used to forget that it was a 50mph PSR over the junction here.
I`ve seen sparks come off those crow nest junction switch diamonds on a bad day.
