Taken at the steps leading onto the edge of the old Skitters Road (Skitters Grove) opposite the motorway bridge on Lowbank Road. Area is now heavily overgrown. The steps are still there but are hidden behind trees. Date of photo unknown, possibly late 60s or early 70s.

I remember riding my bike from the old Ashton Grammar school to Downall Green in the 50s, it was the old Low Bank Rd and with only 3 gears on the bike, I never did manage to ride it up the hill, had to get off and walk :-)

The area here looks tidy compared to today. I walk past this area alot and it's just full of litter. The entrance to the old road is a dumping ground for fly tipping. There's a mattress that's been dumped there just recently. People who are too lazy to take it to a tip.

any idea who the property developers were who bought and built Girton Ave, Balliol way etc on where Skitters used to be?
