I've spent some hours fishing near that culvert. Anyone catch a fish and all the other lads would start throwing in their lines near to where they caught it<g>
Really great picture Ron. Thanks for putting it on. I too spent many hours fishing at the culvert when I was a young boy - mid 60s.
What a great photo - I cycle along there and it is nice now. Good to see what it used to look like.
Never thought I would see a photo of this area so long ago.Wonderful memories fishing with my dad. Thanks a million,Ron.
Thanks Ron I too remember it well, now that is a blast from the past
I remember it well this place, used to walk up to the culvert, during our dinner time from eckersleys mill, watching the clock on St James , running all the way back so we wouldn,t be late , i was only 15, so the run was no problem....could,nt do it now though!!!
There were tunnels connecting the Flash's running under the railway line (no longer there)on both sides of the canal. The culvert must have run under the canal from the other side.We would either cross the railway line or wade through one of the tunnels to avoid the the permit man who always stood under the railway bridge (no longer there).Wonder what 'yon mon' was doing.
Looks allot different now,Used to wade in the culvert and net the little perch to take home. But after seeing what i think was a 4or 5 foot pike jump for a swan we fort twice,of course no 1 believed us.
The photographer was Arnold Hall. The bike is his signature.
