Were you under age Dave having a pint off the beaten track, or had you moved from Wallgate by then? Yes i,ve had one or two in there as well.

I've always been curious about this pub's alternate name. Does anyone have an explanation?

In the 1600s Crank Rd which is on the left of this photo was known as 'The Causeway' it was the main road over Shaley Brow from Prescott to Wigan and the pub was at the bottom. When travelers asked for directions to the pub (the only pub around) locals would tell them, it,s at 'Foot o't Causeway' and the name stuck.

Thanks for the info,Ron,I remember having a bacon roll from a shack at the top of Crank Rd. and there was another name up there,Jacob's or Gabriel's Ladder.
