This is a photograph taken from a multi view post card showing various views around Wigan. So the quality isn't great.

Is this a side view of the Park Cafe? I believe the steps where in place in front of the cafe in the 1930s, plus the statue of the soldier of the Boar War, holding the flag. The story goes, that an inebriated sailor broke the arm , and the flag off the statue. I believe sometime in the 1940s, and in court, his excuse was " He seemed to have been holding the flag too long".

This is the opposite side to the steps coming from the Gidlow
and Beech Hill end.
