On reflection, could be a little later than 1961, but certainly early 60s.

It was in the same row as yours. Was there a little girl called Valerie who didn't play out much? I think it may have been her back-gate. I will ask Mary Shaw, (now my sister-in-law) if she can remember.

Christine, as with Kenneth Grimshaw, I had a feeling I was putting the wrong name for the boy on the other pic; I didn't think it was Philip Hoctor, but couldn't think who it was. I hoped someone would put me right.

I don't think the photo was taken near that gate for any particular reason.....I actually (very vaguely) remember it being taken, although I can't recall who took it. Who lived at no. 6, Christine? I can recall your family at no. 8, and the Packinghams nearby, and an old lady called Mrs. White; The Newtons across the road from you, and The Shawcrosses in the house near the back field. Down the other side of George Street, going down towards the Wagon Works, I remember Joyce Grimshaw and her mum and dad then the Taylors, and Pat Burgess lived in the end house. Across the road from Pat lived Irene Fairhurst, (nee Grimshaw), with her husband Bob and their two sons. And Anne Heyes, who I occasionally see in Hindley Tesco. I remember Dr. Hyde's side-door to the surgery was diagonally opposite you, but I can't fecall who lived between the surgery and The Newton's house. Can you fill in any gaps?

Thanks Christine, I remember Frank James, and I have a photo of myself as a very small child standing in the back-yard of no. 2, (Davies's, I think), holding an enormous bouquet of flowers, probably following a wedding; they had such big bouquets at 1950s weddings.

She lived at the last house on the right leading down to the Wagon Works. Her Mum remarried and she lived in Ince Green Lane then, as you recall, and then I think they moved to Leominster Place.

Hi just wondering if the Mary Shaw in the picture use to live in a row of houses going down Ince green lane on the left side just before St Williams church.
