Taken in the 1870s, the view shows J. Airey's chemist shop in what is now the site of the (ex)Yorkshire Bank Building.

What a great photo, never seen this before. Just shows that there are gems out there still to be discovered.

It's taken by J.Cooper one of, if not, the first photographer in Wigan There are quite a few more on the site. Not the best quality, but they were taken in the 1870's 80's when photography was in its infancy.

Pemmer - the pub is now called 'Last Orders'. Originally 'The Dog and Partridge', then altered to 'The Bee's Knees' in the late '70s, then to 'Last Orders'.

It looks like it says 'saddlers' on the building on the left edge of the picture

I couldn't figure this photo out at first but now can see where the last orders and the betting shop is now. Brilliant photo

A friend from old motorbiking days was asking which pub was the venue for the first meeting of Wigan Auto Club. This was really a motorbike club brought into existance by Alan Rogerson and his brothers.I couldn't remember but this was the place it was next to the Post Office in those days.
