Picture of the Ship Hotel Millgate, in the early 1900's. The facade has been kept but it looks nothing like this, (what a fantastic building it was.) The mosaic of a sailing ship above the SHIP INN signpost is still there, and what a fantastic lamp.

If this was in Chester it wouldn't be out of place but it isn't, it's Wigan and what a great architectural feature it makes.

I used to work in the Platt Bridge Inn many years ago, and heard many tales in the tap-room about The Ship, and it's "Ladies of the Night"! This is a brilliant photo of a place full of character.

Josie, the men in the Platt Bridge Inn remembered one of the ladies known as "Red Bette", and the price was marked on the sole of their shoes in chalk, which could easily be rubbed out and changed as prices fluctuated!
