It looks like really elegant tea rooms, everything clean and neat. How lovely it must have been to have afternoon tea there, triangular sandwiches, choice of cakes, using only the best china of course. How times have changed!

Looks very Victorian in style, with the carpet runners and the potted palms. Was it still like this in its latter days or had it been modernised.

The Roy Cafe was the venue for my late parents wedding reception in 1953. I remember my mum mentioning this place on several ocassions and it seemed to be a very popular and perhaps "up market" tea room in Wigan during the 50`s. I smile, as I remember, knowing my mum particularly,the place will of been inspected prior to making the reservation, it must have met with her satisfaction to be spotless to say the least! and am sure, only the sparkling best china will have been provided! It is nice to see the exterior and interior photo`s as I can now put a picture to a memory. Thankyou Dennis.

Was this the place that was later to become King Al's Kitchen round about the early Seventies. First time I ever saw FREE peanuts on a bar!

Yes Nads, though I can imagine why this would have passed Peggy's scrupulous inspection! Looks very nice indeed and as mentioned in a previous comment, must have been a lovely place to have afternoon tea.

There aren't many people named after a cafe, but I was !!!
My parents were married at St George's church in 1938 and had a short walk to their reception venue, The Roy Cafe, my mother told me when they were thinking of a name for me in 1941, Roy was mentioned re the cafe and that's what they decided on.
